Study Abroad Award

The Study Abroad Award recognizes Hagan Scholars for outstanding academic achievement. Award recipients will visit and explore another country and meet its people, experience its culture, art, and history firsthand; and, obtain college credit. Study abroad will allow recipients to escape their comfort zones and enhance their individualism, resume, career opportunities.

The award amount will pay all program costs; Tuition and Fees, Room and Board, Round Trip Airfare, and Incidental Expenses; up to $8,000 per Award.

Study Abroad is such a valuable learning experience that ALL Eligible Recipients Must Study Abroad. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  Recipients benefit from study abroad. Hagan Scholars who have received the award often state that in addition to earning college credits, study abroad changed and improved their lives; created lifelong memories; and was a highlight of their “college experience.”

Process
Eligible recipients will be notified by the fall semester of their third year of college and provided with a Study Abroad Application.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Recipients must have achieved a 3.50 CGPA after their second year of college. NO EXCEPTIONS.
2. Recipients must have fulfilled all Scholarship Criteria and Recipient Responsibilities.
3. Recipients must complete a Study Abroad Application.

Particulars
1. Study Abroad must be arranged by recipient’s college or university or an alternate provider approved by HSF.
2. Study Abroad must pertain to recipient’s major or minor and enable recipient to earn college credits.
3. Study Abroad college credits cannot count toward the mandatory 30 GPA college credits that must be completed during the academic year, fall and spring semesters only.
4. Study Abroad must occur during the winter intercession of recipient’s third year of college; during spring break of recipient’s third year of college; or, during the summer following recipient’s third year of college.
5. Study Abroad must not conflict with the mandatory summer Workshop.
6. Recipients must write a report after their study abroad experience.

Countries Visited:  Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, England, Finland, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, India, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Peru, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tanzania.
